I’m Reading Ken Follet's "The Man From St. Petersburg," wherein I discovered an interesting passage that had a familiar contemporary and political ring to it: "he [the lead character] had learned the ultimate truth about oppression: that it works by turning the victims against each other instead of against their oppressors."
