Southside With You

VIDEO GUY... On a roll today. "SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU" - Touted in some corners as a "Before Sunrise" style walk-and-talk film, this was a sad reminder to me of what we are about to lose in the political arena: sweetness, honesty, grace. The movie presents us with Barack (27-year-old Michelle's summer intern at the corporate law firm where she worked) and Michelle's first 'date' in Chicago, purportedly about 90% accurate, and although it's not a fast-moving film, it's pleasant in that one can imagine that the dialog is representational of the true characters.... Michelle: intelligent, sharp, beholden to no fools; Barack: witty, smooth, developing the style many of us have come to appreciate immensely (deliberate, calm, inspirational). Stars Parker Sawyers & Tika Sumpter do a fine job, with Sawyers' role feeling uncannily Barack-like and Sumter shifting effectively between skepticism and enchantment.
